The contract comes with an average annual value of $3 million.

Liljegren, a 25-year-old player from Kristianstad, Sweden, showcased his skills in 55 games with the Leafs during the previous season. He impressed with a total of 23 points, including 3 goals and 20 assists. In addition, he contributed one assist in six playoff games.

Over the course of five seasons in Toronto, Liljegren has played 196 regular season games, accumulating 65 points consisting of 14 goals and 51 assists. In his postseason career, he has appeared in 13 games, recording one point through an assist.

Notably, Liljegren played a crucial role in helping the Toronto Marlies secure their first-ever Calder Cup victory in 2018. His talent also earned him a silver medal for Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Championship. Most recently, he represented his country in the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship.

Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round (17th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Liljegren has shown tremendous potential and promise. With his contract extension, the team is confident in his abilities to contribute to future successes and help bolster their defensive lineup.
