COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Tornado Watch has been issued for central, northern, and western parts of Ohio until 7 p.m., as the region braces for potential strong to severe storms later today.
Today has been designated as a Weather Alert Day due to the anticipated severe weather conditions. The day started with rain showers moving across Central Ohio, accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder. While severe storms were not likely in the morning, residents experienced temperatures dipping into the 60s.
As the morning rain subsides, the sun will attempt to peak out during midday, raising temperatures to the upper 70s. Brisk southwest winds, ranging from 15 to 25 mph, will contribute to warmer temperatures.
By early afternoon, a broken line of showers and storms is expected to develop, originating in Western Ohio or Indiana. Although the strongest portions of these storms are likely to impact Northern Ohio, the entire state could potentially experience severe weather, including damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. It is crucial for residents to stay weather aware as the day progresses, as the intensity of the storms is expected to increase with the warming midday temperatures.
The storms are projected to exit the state by midnight, with clearing skies overnight. On Thursday, the day will begin with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-50s. Throughout the day, the weather will range from partly cloudy to mostly sunny, with a high temperature around 74.
Another round of showers and storms is expected on Friday, accompanying a stronger cold front. The rain will recede by midday on Friday, leaving partly to mostly cloudy conditions in the afternoon, with temperatures in the mid-50s.
Over the weekend, residents can expect cool temperatures, starting in the mid-40s on Saturday morning and dropping to the 30s on Sunday. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 50s, with partly cloudy skies persisting. Despite the cool weather, the weekend will remain dry.
Monday will bring mostly sunny conditions, and temperatures will rise to the lower 60s. Tuesday, on the other hand, may experience increased cloud coverage, with a high of 65 and a slight chance of rain returning by the end of the day.
Ohio residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for the ongoing severe weather threats.
