In an exhilarating move reminiscent of his "Mission: Impossible" films, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is set to stun audiences with a jaw-dropping stunt at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. According to reports, the 62-year-old star pitched the idea to the International Olympic Committee himself, and if all goes as planned, it promises to be a showstopper.
Cruise's grand plan entails rappelling from the roof of the iconic Stade de France down to the stadium's field, clutching the Olympic flag during the handover ceremony from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on August 11. While there have been whispers of a potential stunt double for this portion, nothing has been confirmed yet.
As the broadcast cuts to a pre-recorded segment, viewers will witness Cruise skydiving from the Hollywood sign, flag still in hand. The gravity-defying spectacle also features various athletes, including a cyclist, skateboarder, and volleyball player, who will receive the flag from Cruise and proudly wave it around the host city for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Reports suggest that the Hollywood sign sequence was filmed in March, raising little alarm despite Cruise's notorious penchant for death-defying stunts. Earlier sightings of the actor speeding around Paris were also brushed off, as filming for "Mission: Impossible 8" was taking place in Europe at the time.
Representatives for Cruise have yet to comment on the matter, and the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee has remained tight-lipped about ceremony specifics. However, with Paris 2024's artistic director, Thomas Jolly, leading the way, the closing ceremony, titled "Records," is expected to rival the drama of a Cruise film.
According to the official Olympic website, the Stade de France will be transformed into a colossal concert hall, hosting over 100 performers, acrobats, dancers, and circus artists. This mesmerizing showcase is designed to take spectators on a captivating journey through both the past and future.
Describing the event, Jolly stated, "It's a very visual, very choreographic, very acrobatic show with an operatic dimension to give a great visual fresco and say goodbye to athletes from all over the world. Together, let's make this evening a memorable and conscious celebration, honoring the past and embracing the future."
Sources have hinted that audiences should prepare for a major Hollywood production, promising an unforgettable conclusion to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Cruise, who previously carried the Olympic torch in Los Angeles during the journey to Athens in 2004, has been actively cheering on Team USA, attending events such as women's gymnastics and swimming.
With anticipation building and the world watching, Tom Cruise's impending stunt is set to leave spectators awe-inspired and create lasting memories of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
