### Thanksgiving Travel Disrupted by Treacherous Weather Across the United States

Travellers gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday may face significant weather hurdles as the National Weather Service forecasts a tumultuous week across the United States. A blend of rain and snow is expected to impact the eastern U.S., potentially complicating both road and air travel.

The forecast predicts rain and snow in the Pacific Northwest, an area still dealing with the aftermath of a severe storm that resulted in two fatalities last week. Nationwide, temperatures are on a downward trend, with the east coast predicted to encounter the harshest conditions toward the end of the week. By Thursday, a low-pressure system is anticipated to sweep rain across the eastern seaboard, bringing snow to higher elevations and colder states such as Maine and New Hampshire. The southeast will also experience rain accompanied by a forthcoming cold front.

In the Midwest and the Great Lakes region, heavy lake-effect snow is a distinct possibility by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. The western U.S. is also not immune to inclement weather. California's Sierra Nevada mountain range is under a winter storm warning until Wednesday, with the peak of the storm expected on Tuesday. High elevations are forecasted to receive heavy snowfall and wind gusts up to 50 mph (81 kph), creating perilous travel conditions above 5,500 feet (1,676 meters).

Central California is bracing for another atmospheric river event on Tuesday, following a similar episode last week. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest is still recovering from last week's bomb cyclone, which resulted in widespread flooding and power outages for hundreds of thousands of residents. The area faces the potential for further wet weather this week, with the National Weather Service predicting a low-pressure system to bring coastal rains to Washington, Oregon, and California.

Across the Atlantic, there are widespread disruptions in Northamptonshire due to flooding from Storm Bert. Schools have been closed, rail services canceled, and roads submerged, adding to the chaotic weather pattern observed both domestically and internationally.
