In a pivotal showdown at the Women's College World Series, Texas emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Tennessee, securing their spot in the championship series. Pitcher Teagan Kavan played a crucial role, providing three innings of hitless relief as the Longhorns progressed to face either Oklahoma or Texas Tech next.

The game began with a strong performance from Texas starter Mac Morgan, who effectively limited Tennessee's advances over four shutout innings. Morgan allowed just three hits while striking out four, setting the tone early. Her impressive outing was supported by Kavan, who took over in the fifth inning, maintaining the shutout and preserving the Longhorns' lead.

The game remained a scoreless pitcher's duel through the first three innings, with both Morgan and Tennessee ace Karlyn Pickens demonstrating top-tier skills. The Longhorns finally broke through in the fourth inning when outfielder Katie Stewart hit a solo home run, marking her 17th of the season and tying her with teammate Joley Mitchell for the team lead. This pivotal moment gave Texas a narrow 1-0 lead.

Texas added an insurance run in the sixth inning due to a critical fielding error by Tennessee's third baseman Taylor Pannell. With two outs, Pannell's throw sailed into the photographer's pit, allowing Joley Mitchell to score from second base. Although Katie Stewart was prevented from extending the lead further, the additional run provided the Longhorns with a more comfortable margin.

Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens delivered a commendable performance despite the loss. Standing at 6-foot-1, she managed to limit Texas to four hits while striking out eight batters and issuing only a single walk. However, the Volunteers' offense couldn't find a way past Morgan and Kavan's combined efforts.

The victory ensures Texas a return trip to the WCWS championship series. They await the outcome of the matchup between Oklahoma and Texas Tech, the latter of which remains unbeaten in the tournament and is led by standout pitcher NiJaree Canady. The championship series is set to be an intense battle for the title, showcasing the best of college softball.
