### Extreme Rainfall Prompts Condition Red at Nolichucky Dam, Risk of Breach Imminent

GREENE COUNTY, TENN. (WCYB) – The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has issued a Condition Red warning as extreme rainfall has placed Nolichucky Dam at high risk of breaching. Despite the river cresting and water levels now receding by about a foot per hour, the dam’s structural integrity remains a concern.

TVA officials report that the water levels reached heights of 8 feet above the record elevation due to torrential rain. The safety teams are closely monitoring the situation, assessing the dam, and deciding on the next steps to ensure safety.

Due to the potential for a breach, the TVA has escalated to a Condition Red warning. The elevated threat level is a precautionary measure given the limited visibility around the dam area. Officials have cautioned that such an event could lead to life-threatening flooding, extending as far as the Douglas Reservoir.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay informed and be prepared for possible evacuations as the TVA continues to manage and respond to this critical situation.
