A teenager named Rhys, 15, from Pontarddulais, Swansea, issued a cautionary tale after what seemed like a mild headache turned out to be a fast-growing brain tumour. Despite getting sent home with antibiotics and nasal spray in December, Rhys' symptoms escalated rapidly, leading to severe pain in his neck and head, along with constant sickness.

After multiple visits to the GP, Rhys was eventually sent to Morriston Hospital in mid-January, where he received the devastating diagnosis. His mother, Clare, highlighted the importance of persistent advocacy for her son's health, expressing gratitude for catching the aggressive tumour early.

Following the diagnosis, Rhys underwent surgery in Cardiff on 17 January to remove the tumour. He is set to begin proton beam therapy on his spine next week, a precise form of radiotherapy targeting specific cancers.

Rhys emphasized the significance of seeking medical attention upon noticing any abnormal symptoms, urging others to prioritize their health. The family has been receiving support from various sources, including counselling sessions at Noah's Ark hospital in Cardiff.

The journey ahead holds challenges, but Rhys remains optimistic and determined to overcome the obstacles in his path.
