The trade was announced by vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois.

In exchange for Sergachev, the Lightning have acquired defenseman J.J. Moser, forward Conor Geekie, a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Moser, a 24-year-old defenseman, played 80 games with the Arizona Coyotes last season. He recorded five goals and 26 points, ranking second among Coyotes defensemen in points and assists. Known for his defensive skills, Moser averaged 20:34 of ice time per game, blocked 112 shots, and logged 21 takeaways.

The 6-foot-1, 173-pound Swiss native was a second-round pick by the Coyotes in the 2021 NHL Draft. In his career, Moser has played in 205 NHL games, contributing 16 goals and 72 points.

Conor Geekie, a 20-year-old forward, had an impressive season split between the Western Hockey League's Swift Current Broncos and Wenatchee Wild. He played in 55 games and registered 43 goals and 99 points, placing him among the top skaters in the WHL for goals and points. Geekie also boasted a plus-51 rating, the second-highest in the WHL, and scored 16 power-play goals.

Geekie, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 194 pounds, represented Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he recorded two goals and three points. He made his professional debut with the American Hockey League's Tucson Roadrunners and played in two Calder Cup Playoff games.

The trade marks the end of Sergachev's seven-season tenure with the Lightning. Since his acquisition from the Montreal Canadiens in 2017, Sergachev played a key role in the team's back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021. In 475 regular season games, Sergachev tallied 48 goals and 257 points, while also earning a plus-47 rating. He participated in 100 playoff games with the Lightning.

As a result of this trade, the Lightning have added defensive depth with Moser and offensive potential with Geekie. The inclusion of future draft picks provides the team with valuable assets for the coming seasons. Meanwhile, Sergachev's departure leaves a void on the Lightning's blue line.

Both Moser and Geekie will look to make immediate contributions to the Lightning as the team aims to defend their back-to-back championship titles in the upcoming season.
