Taiwan's defense ministry stated there has been no escalation in military deployments on frontline islands facing China amidst heightened tensions with Beijing. The ministry addressed concerns following recent incidents, including China's coast guard patrols around the Taiwan-controlled Kinmen islands and boarding of a Taiwanese tourist boat near Kinmen. Despite these events, Taiwan emphasized that there is currently "nothing abnormal" in China's military movements around Taiwan.

The U.S. State Department expressed vigilance over Beijing's actions and urged restraint to maintain the existing status quo. Kinmen, which has been under Taipei's control since 1949, remains a strategic location near Chinese cities of Xiamen and Quanzhou. The region, once a site of conflict during the Cold War, now serves as a popular tourist destination with a sizable Taiwanese military garrison.

Taiwan announced strategic exercises and preparations in response to the situation, collaborating with the coast guard to address potential challenges. Analysis from Taiwan's top military think tank suggests that China's recent actions, including the use of coast guard patrols, are part of a calculated approach to exert political pressure without escalating hostilities.

The situation around Kinmen has raised concerns, with observers noting that these actions may be aimed at influencing the upcoming presidency of Lai Ching-te. Despite the tensions, Taiwan's government stands firm in rejecting China's sovereignty claims and asserts the right of the Taiwanese people to determine their own future.
