T-Mobile Announces Price Increase for Older Plans

In an effort to keep up with rising inflation and costs, T-Mobile is set to raise prices on its older plans for the first time in nearly a decade. The announcement came through a memo from Jon Freier, president of T-Mobile's consumer group, which was obtained by CNET.
While the specific plans affected were not listed in the memo, Freier made it clear that customers on T-Mobile's latest Go5G plans will be exempt from the price increase. Additionally, customers who are covered by T-Mobile's Price Lock guarantee, numbering in the millions, can expect their rates to remain unchanged.
According to an internal presentation deck obtained by The Mobile Report, customers on Simple Choice and ONE plans will experience the price increase. There is a possibility that customers on older or other plans, including those from Sprint, may also be affected. The price hike will take effect on the June 5th billing cycle.
To alleviate customer concerns and manage the impact, T-Mobile will be sending out text notifications to affected customers, starting at 9 am Eastern and concluding by 7 pm Pacific time on the same day. It is expected that the texts will be staggered throughout the day to reduce the volume of customers contacting T-Mobile stores or customer service.
This announcement follows previous controversy where T-Mobile faced backlash for allegedly planning to move customers on older plans to more expensive ones. T-Mobile later clarified that it was just a small-scale test and abandoned the idea.
In 2017, T-Mobile introduced the Un-Contract Promise, assuring customers that if prices were raised, the company would pay their final month's recurring service charges if they chose to leave. However, this commitment ended for plans taken out after April 28, 2022.
As T-Mobile prepares to implement these price increases, affected customers are advised to review their options and make informed decisions regarding their plans.
