A man identified as Troy Philipp B, aged 31, is facing serious charges following a harrowing incident where a 21-year-old woman tragically lost her life. The suspect also faces charges of attempted murder relating to the victim's 22-year-old friend. The events unfolded when the suspect sexually assaulted the 21-year-old woman before pushing both her and her friend off a ravine. The man led the two women to a secluded area, under false pretenses of navigating a difficult trail, where he proceeded to assault the 21-year-old by raping and strangling her. The 22-year-old attempted to intervene, but the suspect pushed her into the same ravine that was approximately 50 meters (164 feet) deep.

Thankfully, mountain rescuers were able to locate the women following the heinous act, with the 21-year-old victim succumbing to her injuries in the hospital. The 22-year-old survivor sustained multiple injuries but managed to survive the ordeal. The suspect's apprehension came after a large-scale police manhunt involving over 25 vehicles. The tragic incident has left the community shaken and mourning the loss of the young woman while the survivor continues on the path of recovery.
