S. Supreme Court has declined an appeal from Sidney Powell and six other lawyers tied to former President Donald Trump regarding $150,000 in sanctions imposed on them for abusing the court system with a bogus lawsuit challenging the 2020 election results in Michigan. The sanctions were initially set at $175,000 but were later reduced by about $25,000 by a federal appeals court. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of six Republican voters after Joe Biden's 154,000-vote victory over Trump in the state. The money is to be paid to the state and Detroit for their expenses incurred in defending the lawsuit.

L. Lin Wood, one of the lawyers involved in the case, claimed his only role was to offer his services if needed by Powell. Powell, who gained notoriety for her "release the Kraken" remark in reference to a lawsuit challenging the election results, pleaded guilty to state criminal charges in Georgia for her efforts to overturn Trump's loss in the state. She admitted to six misdemeanors related to interfering with election duties.

The justices did not provide any comment on their decision to uphold the sanctions against Powell and her allies, marking another legal setback for those who sought to challenge the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.
