**SunFed Produce Recalls Cucumbers in 26 States and 5 Canadian Provinces Over Salmonella Concerns**

SunFed Produce is recalling cucumbers distributed across 26 states in the U.S. and five Canadian provinces due to a potential salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced this week. This recall pertains to all sizes of whole fresh cucumbers sold between October 12 and November 26.

The recalled cucumbers were distributed in bulk cardboard containers with a "SunFed" label or in generic white boxes or black plastic crates with a sticker identifying the grower. SunFed Produce President Craig Slate stated, "As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause."

Salmonella infections can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps, with onset occurring from six hours to six days after ingestion. These symptoms typically last between four days and a week. The infection can be particularly dangerous for young children, elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The recall involves cucumbers sold in the following U.S. states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Additionally, it includes shipments to the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. The FDA also noted that the cucumbers might have been sold at retail outlets beyond the listed locations.

Customers are advised to cross-check their cucumbers against images provided by the FDA and discard any qualifying products. If uncertain about their purchase, customers should contact their retailer for confirmation.

Earlier in the year, over 160 people were affected by a salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers sold by Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc., indicating a continuing need for vigilance in produce safety.
