### Miami Dolphins Fall Short Against Colts Amid Injuries and Offensive Struggles
Despite a strong start, the Miami Dolphins fell to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday with a final score of 16-10. The Dolphins jumped ahead early but faltered in the second half as quarterback Tyler Huntley left the game in the third quarter due to a right shoulder injury, forcing the team to rely on backup Tim Boyle.
Miami's running game remained a bright spot, racking up an impressive 188 rushing yards. De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert led the charge with over 125 combined yards. However, the Dolphins’ high-powered passing attack was notably absent. Star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were largely ineffective; Hill managed just one catch for 8 yards, and Waddle had a single reception for 11 yards. One crucial play summed up the team’s passing woes: a well-aimed deep throw from Huntley that Hill failed to locate.
Boyle acknowledged the challenges in targeting Hill and Waddle, citing defensive schemes aimed at neutralizing Miami’s top receivers. "Defenses do a really good job of taking those guys away and we need to be creative with the ways we get them the ball,” Boyle said post-game. He pointed out that the Colts shifted from their usual one-high defense to a two-high formation to stymie Hill and Waddle.
Miami’s defense did perform admirably, limiting Colts’ rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson to a sub-50 percent completion rate. Richardson, however, made up for it with his legs, contributing to a 155-yard rushing day for Indianapolis. His 33-yard pass to Michael Pittman Jr. set up a field goal that brought the Colts within striking distance by halftime.
Penalties continued to plague the Dolphins, who were flagged six times for 50 yards. These penalties were costly, nullifying significant gains and halting offensive momentum. “Collectively, as a team, we just have to play smarter football,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “We have retooled stuff to clean up our game with the penalties, and it’s still killing us.”
Notably, Jonnu Smith had a standout performance with seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, scoring the Dolphins' only touchdown of the game on a 10-yard reception. However, the Dolphins managed only three more points for the remainder of the half.
In the third quarter, the Colts’ Segun Olubi forced and recovered a fumble from Mostert, setting up a 7-yard touchdown run by Tyler Goodson. This play tied the game at 10, and two more field goals by Matt Gay in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for Indianapolis.
With Boyle stepping in after Huntley's injury, the Dolphins had a final chance to mount a game-winning drive. They reached the Colts' 32-yard line but couldn't capitalize, ending the game without further scoring.
Now at 2-4, the Dolphins face an uphill battle as they prepare for a Week 8 home game against the Arizona Cardinals. There is a glimmer of hope, however, with the potential return of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has been sidelined since Week 2 with a concussion. "He's hungry to get back,” Boyle said of Tagovailoa. “He's been around every meeting, every practice. He's a bright light for this team right now, and I know he's excited to get back.”
