BOSTON - Steward Health faced a deadline to provide its financial records to the state by Friday but may not be taking further action, as per reports. Following a letter from Governor Healey earlier this week demanding financial information and patient safety measures, Steward responded, stating that while it had submitted tens of thousands of financial pages, it lacked the audited documents requested by the governor.
With Steward Health Care in millions of dollars of debt and construction at Norwood Hospital paused, Congressman Stephen Lynch warned about the potential abandonment of plans to reopen the hospital. Concerns from nurses regarding understaffing and first responders about patient risks post-hospital closure have been expressed.
The state is currently reviewing the information provided by Steward this week as Governor Healey's spokesperson, Karissa Hand, highlighted the incomplete and inadequate nature of the financial data submitted. Steward reportedly expressed interest in transferring its hospitals to new owners last fall.
Steward Health Care operates various hospitals in Massachusetts, including St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Holy Family Hospitals in Haverhill and Methuen, Carney Hospital, St. Anne's Hospital, Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Norwood Hospital, New England Sinai Hospital, and Morton Hospital.
