### Stellantis Delays Launch of Ram 1500 REV Electric Truck to 2025
Stellantis NV CEO Carlos Tavares has announced a delay in the launch of the Ram 1500 REV all-electric pickup truck, pushing its release to the first half of 2025. Originally expected to debut in late 2024 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, the updated timeline aligns with Ram CEO Christine Feuell's recent indications that the REV wouldn't be available until the following year.
The company has prioritized other launches before the REV. The lineup will start with the Dodge Charger Daytona muscle car and then the Jeep Wagoneer S SUV, which are the first all-electric vehicles for Stellantis' American brands set for retail in North America. Tavares emphasized that Stellantis aims to ensure high durability and mastery of electric vehicle technology, choosing thorough validation over rushing to market.
The Ram 1500 REV is entering a market populated by competitors such as Ford's F-150 Lightning, GM's GMC Hummer EV, GMC Sierra EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian's R1T, and Tesla's Cybertruck. Ram has stressed that its focus is to meet the high performance and capability expectations of its truck customers. A Super Bowl ad earlier this year humorously hinted at managing expectations around the new release.
Industry conditions are proving tough for new electric truck launches. Ford recently paused production at its Lightning plant in Dearborn to maintain profitability, while GM has postponed reopening its electric truck assembly plant in Orion Township until mid-2026. Despite these challenges, Tavares expressed confidence in the capabilities and timing of the REV, suggesting it might include first-to-market features like a range extender.
Stellantis is determined to achieve its carbon net-zero target by 2038, irrespective of evolving government policies or consumer incentives. To support this, the company is innovating and reducing costs across its operations.
The REV will be built on the STLA Frame platform, designed for various powertrains including battery-electric, hybrid, gas, diesel, and hydrogen fuel cell. The platform supports vehicles with a range up to 500 miles on electric power alone and up to 690 miles with an on-board gas engine charger.
Additionally, it can accommodate liquid-cooled battery packs, with fast-charging capabilities allowing for significant range extension in just minutes. The STLA Frame also provides robust support for heavy-duty vehicles, boasting impressive towing and payload capacities, and a versatile size range adaptable to various models.
Duane Schoreder, director of the body-on-frame architecture, highlighted that the platform meets customer demands for practicality and robustness, while also advancing Stellantis' commitment to clean and sustainable mobility solutions.
