In a surprising turn of events, a springtime storm hit various regions of Maine on Saturday, delivering multiple inches of snow accumulation and resulting in treacherous icy conditions. The local National Weather Service office in Gray has released a comprehensive list of snowfall reports, providing a glimpse into the extent of the storm's impact.
Androscoggin County bore the brunt of the storm, with Livermore Falls reporting a whopping 11.5 inches of snow. Mechanic Falls followed closely behind with 9.8 inches, while Lewiston recorded 8.8 inches. Poland and Auburn experienced snowfall of 8.0 inches and 7.0 inches, respectively, while Lisbon Falls received 5.7 inches.
Heading further south, Cumberland County also witnessed significant snowfall. East Baldwin reported a substantial accumulation of 10.1 inches, while North Windham experienced 7.5 inches of snowfall. Gray itself recorded 7.0 inches, followed by Standish with 6.8 inches. Other towns in Cumberland County, including Yarmouth and Portland Jetport, saw 5.4 inches and 5.3 inches of snow accumulation, respectively.
Franklin County faced considerable snowfall as well, with Madrid reporting 9.3 inches. Kennebec County saw Litchfield receiving 8.6 inches, followed by Farmingdale with 7.2 inches. Vassalboro, Randolph, and Hallowell observed snowfall of 6.5 inches, 6.0 inches, and 5.0 inches, respectively, while Gardiner received 4.8 inches.
Knox County witnessed a lighter snowfall, with Camden and Rockland recording 4.0 inches each. Lincoln County reported Bristol with 3.5 inches and South Bristol with 3.0 inches of snow accumulation. Oxford County experienced significant snowfall, with Bryant Pond receiving a staggering 25.0 inches. Norway, Lovell, Sweden, and Oxford recorded 14.5 inches, 13.5 inches, 13.5 inches, and 13.0 inches of snowfall, respectively. Otisfield and Porter observed 10.5 inches and 9.0 inches of snow, respectively.
While Somerset County recorded lesser snowfall, Cornville reported 7.0 inches. In Waldo County, Searsport received 5.4 inches, followed by Monroe with 4.0 inches, and Belfast with 3.5 inches. York County experienced considerable snow accumulation as well, with Hollis recording 7.2 inches and Limington observing 7.0 inches.
The storm also extended its impact beyond the Maine border, affecting regions in neighboring New Hampshire. Carroll County witnessed Albany and Madison recording 16.0 inches of snow, while Conway received 15.0 inches. Freedom and South Tamworth experienced 13.8 inches and 12.5 inches of snowfall, respectively. Coos County saw Whitefield receiving 9.0 inches.
Further across the border in Grafton County, New Hampshire, Woodsville reported a substantial 20.0 inches of snow accumulation. Ellsworth, Hanover, and Lebanon recorded 18.0 inches each, while Waterville Valley observed 17.6 inches. Other towns in Grafton County, such as Campton, Lincoln, Lyme, Plymouth, and Bristol, witnessed snowfall ranging from 16.3 inches to 11.5 inches.
In addition to the significant snowfall, freezing rain and icy conditions were reported in various areas. South Windham in Cumberland County recorded 0.10 inches of freezing rain, while Falmouth experienced 0.08 inches. Augusta in Kennebec County observed 0.01 inches of freezing rain, while Wiscasset in Lincoln County recorded 0.24 inches. Searsport in Waldo County reported 0.05 inches, and North Berwick in York County experienced 0.10 inches of freezing rain.
The spring storm left residents of Maine and parts of New Hampshire grappling with challenging weather conditions, as they braved the heavy snowfall and icy roads.
