The incident occurred on Friday evening and led to the cancellation of the flight. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The bullet hit the Boeing 737-800 on the right side of the aircraft, just beneath the flight deck, as the crew was readying it for departure. The incident happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. while the plane was taxiing before its planned flight to Indianapolis International Airport.
Upon discovering the damage, the aircraft returned to the gate, and all passengers were safely deplaned. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the plane was removed from service. Southwest Airlines assured passengers that another flight would be arranged to minimize their inconvenience.
Dallas Love Field Airport, providing updates via social media, stated that the Dallas Police Department responded to the scene. One of the runways, 13R/31L, was closed as a precaution but was reopened later that night without significantly impacting the airport’s overall operations.
