**Bullet Strikes Southwest Airlines Plane at Dallas Airport, Forcing Flight Cancellation**
A Southwest Airlines plane set to depart from Dallas Love Field airport was hit by a bullet on Friday evening, resulting in the flight's cancellation. Though no injuries occurred, the bullet impacted the right side of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, just below the flight deck as crew members prepared for departure.
Flight 2494 was taxiing in preparation for its scheduled trip to Indianapolis International Airport when the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the bullet struck near the cockpit, prompting an immediate return to the gate where passengers were safely disembarked.
Law enforcement, including the Dallas Police Department, was swiftly contacted. The airport later confirmed via social media that runway 13R/31L had been temporarily closed but was reopened with minimal impact on overall operations.
Southwest Airlines has stated that the affected aircraft was promptly removed from service and that arrangements were made to provide an alternative flight for inconvenienced passengers.
