The Steamboat Springs snowboarding community is mourning the untimely loss of Jesse Hamric, a recent graduate of Steamboat Springs High School and a beloved member of the tight-knit snowboarding community. Friends and fellow snowboarders remember Hamric as a talented and uplifting individual whose bright future was cut short in a tragic accident.

According to Alex Schwab, a close friend and snowboarding companion of Hamric, the young athlete had always been known for his infectious happiness and positive attitude. Schwab shared, "He's always really happy. And uplifting. He's been, like, a close snowboard friend of mine for, like, passed me three years this year. He even lived with me a little bit." The two had forged a strong bond through their shared passion for snowboarding.

Hamric's prospects in the snowboarding world appeared promising, given his exceptional talents and relentless determination. Schwab expressed, "It was looking really good. Honestly. Like he was so talented, and he always was just like, you know, always like we try to always be the one to try it, you know?"

However, on July 4th, tragedy struck when Hamric was visiting Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, to spend time with friends and family. During a leisurely swim in the lake, it is suspected that he was electrocuted by stray voltage emanating from a private dock. Despite the valiant efforts of friends and first responders to rescue him, they were unable to save his life.

The loss of Hamric has sent shockwaves through both the Steamboat and snowboarding communities. Schwab shared the deep sorrow felt by all, stating, "Our whole snowboarding community has really come together. It's just such a tragic thing." For Schwab, the personal impact of Hamric's passing is immeasurable: "Honestly, he was just such a special person. Such a special person to me. I miss him. And I love him."

In the wake of this tragedy, Schwab hopes that the Steamboat and snowboarding communities will continue to rally around Hamric's family and friends, offering support during this difficult time. He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support already witnessed on social media platforms, saying, "It's just such a tragic thing, you know? But it's also beautiful the way that everyone's coming together on social media and whatnot."

As the investigation into the accident continues, the snowboarding community will honor Jesse Hamric's memory, remembering his joy, talent, and the positive impact he had on those around him.
