A small business owner in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood, Voahangy Rasetarinera, who owns Giving Pies, found herself at a loss of thousands of dollars when Tesla unexpectedly canceled an order for 4,000 mini pies. Despite the bakery's reputation for crafting each pie by hand in small batches and servicing big corporations like Apple, Google, and Intuit, the unfortunate incident left Rasetarinera in a tough spot.

The trouble began when Tesla placed a last-minute order for 2,000 pies to be delivered on Tuesday and Thursday. Rasetarinera agreed, but Tesla failed to make the payment promptly, leaving the small business owner in limbo. After several attempts to follow up and revise the invoice, Tesla contacted her at 9 p.m. on Thursday, apologizing for the delay and requesting to double the order.

Rasetarinera quickly mobilized her staff to meet the expanded request, but despite sending a revised invoice, Tesla did not make the payment. After pleading for payment due to limited resources, the small business owner was informed that Tesla no longer needed the order, leaving Rasetarinera at a loss as she had turned down other orders and purchased supplies.

Upon posting about the incident on social media, Tesla contacted Rasetarinera, promising to make amends by offering two events on March 6th and 7th. Rasetarinera expressed her willingness to work with Tesla to rectify the situation, but as of now, she is still awaiting confirmation from the company.

KRON4 reached out to Tesla for comment, but as of Thursday night, no response has been received. The incident serves as a cautionary tale highlighting the challenges faced by small businesses dealing with larger corporations and the importance of timely and transparent communication in business transactions.
