In a severe weather update, the Twin Cities and northern Minnesota are facing the possibility of thunderstorms and severe weather this evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued an enhanced (level 3 of 5) severe weather risk for northern Minnesota, while the rest of the state falls under a slight (level 2 of 5) risk zone.

The morning batch of storms originating from the Twin Cities and moving south and west has stabilized the atmosphere throughout the day. However, meteorologists anticipate the potential for another round of storms to develop in the evening around the Twin Cities. Northern Minnesota, on the other hand, is expected to experience storm activity in the afternoon.

According to NOAA's FV3 model, storms are projected to develop across northern Minnesota this afternoon. Additionally, one batch of storms may move into northwest Wisconsin this evening, followed by another wave potentially impacting the Twin Cities between 8 and 10 p.m.

The primary concerns associated with these storms are large hail and damaging winds. The intense updrafts within the storms have the potential to produce hail of 2 or 3 inches in diameter with stronger storms, posing a risk to property and vehicles.

Residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for severe weather watches and warnings throughout this afternoon and evening. Pay close attention to updates from local authorities, as well as the Twin Cities National Weather Service, for real-time information on any developing weather conditions.

As the severe weather risk heightens, it is crucial for individuals in the affected areas to take necessary precautions, such as securing outdoor objects, staying indoors, and seeking shelter in a designated safe area until the severe weather subsides.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing severe weather situation in northern Minnesota and the Twin Cities region.
