In an announcement made on Saturday, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned residents of northwest New Jersey to brace themselves for a powerful line of severe thunderstorms that is expected to move into the region Sunday night. According to the NWS, these storms could bring winds reaching up to 70 mph, posing a significant risk of damage. There is even a possibility of an isolated tornado occurring.

Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania have been put under an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms, while a Slight Risk extends across northwest New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley. Furthermore, the I-95 corridor faces a marginal risk from the storm. Residents residing in these areas are advised to stay updated with the latest weather information and take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety.

The NWS has provided a projected timeline for the approaching thunderstorms. The line of storms is predicted to reach the Poconos region between 5 and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Subsequently, it is expected to move into northwest New Jersey between 7 and 9 p.m. The NWS urges residents in these areas to remain vigilant during this time and be prepared for potentially hazardous weather conditions.

The main concern with these severe thunderstorms is the strong winds. Wind speeds of up to 70 mph can cause extensive damage to property, infrastructure, and trees. Additionally, the possibility of an isolated tornado can make the situation even more dangerous. Residents are advised to secure any loose objects outside their homes and seek shelter in a sturdy building if necessary.

Local authorities are actively coordinating with emergency management agencies to ensure adequate response measures are in place. Power companies are also on standby to address any potential power outages that may occur due to the storms.

The NWS will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local weather forecasts and heed any warnings or advisories issued by the authorities. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, individuals can help ensure their safety during this approaching severe weather event.
