A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of the Northeast until 10 p.m., as meteorologists warn of strong storms with the potential for damaging winds and flash flooding. The severe weather threat, which caused extensive damage in the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region on Monday, has now shifted to the Northeast.

The FOX Forecast Center has reported the development of strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon, expected to last into the evening. The affected area spans from eastern Ohio through New Hampshire, with primary concerns focusing on damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or higher. Additionally, severe downbursts may occur as storms form along this corridor.

According to FOX Weather Meteorologist Craig Herrera, multiple rounds of these severe thunderstorms are expected in the next few days, accompanied by hot and humid conditions. The Storm Prediction Center has identified several New York communities, including Syracuse, Albany, Schenectady, Utica, and Troy, as facing a level 3 out of 5 severe thunderstorm risk.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of New York, including New York City, as well as Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia. The watch also extends to Washington, D.C., portions of New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia.

The primary threats associated with these storms include scattered damaging winds, with isolated gusts possibly reaching up to 75 mph. Additionally, isolated very large hail events, with diameters of up to 2 inches, could occur, along with the possibility of a tornado or two. The storms are also expected to bring bursts of heavy rain, raising concerns about flash flooding in the Northeast.

While flooding is a greater concern in the Ohio Valley, where storms could drop 3-5 inches of rain through Wednesday, the Northeast is also projected to experience significant rainfall. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are forecasted for Wednesday, from the Carolinas to New England, with a focus on the major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor, including Washington, Philadelphia, and New York City.

Damaging wind gusts remain the primary threat for these storms, as the region braces for another round of severe weather. Residents are advised to stay tuned to local weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
