Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Wayne and Yates Counties

ROCHESTER, NY - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Wayne and Yates Counties until 9pm this evening. While the main threat for rain has moved out of the area, there is still a chance of isolated storms potentially firing up this afternoon, and residents are advised to remain cautious.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s, contributing to a muggy day accompanied by the possibility of storms. Currently, the main band of strong/severe storms stretches from Watertown to Syracuse to Binghamton, pushing eastward. Additional development is likely in a still unstable airmass, with signs of storm activity already appearing near Erie.

As the evening progresses, skies will hold onto the clouds, and temperatures will fall into the lower 60s. Tuesday will see the approach of another boundary from the north, resulting in rain showers and a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be cooler, with highs barely reaching 70°.

Wednesday will bring colder temperatures in the 40s for some areas, and there could be some rain showers in the southern region, although most places will stay dry. High pressure is predicted to build up during the second part of the week, ensuring dry conditions through the first part of the weekend.

Residents in Wayne and Yates Counties are urged to stay updated on the severe weather situation and take necessary precautions.
