Series of Earthquakes Strike Karnes County, USGS Reports

A series of earthquakes have struck Karnes County, Texas, with the latest one being a 3.3-magnitude tremor reported near Falls City on Monday morning. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred shortly after 10:57 a.m., about six kilometers southeast of Falls City, at a depth of 6.3 kilometers. This quake marks the second in the area within three days, following a 4.7-magnitude earthquake that was reported on Saturday morning.
The seismic activity has been ongoing, with a total of 19 earthquakes reported in the Falls City region over the past seven days. Notable quakes this month include a 3.2-magnitude earthquake on Feb. 7, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake on Feb. 8, and three smaller earthquakes on Feb. 12 in Karnes County.
Residents have reported feeling the earthquakes as far as 40-60 miles away, with viewers from areas like San Antonio, Karnes County, and New Braunfels experiencing the tremors. The USGS has noted an increase in earthquake activity in South Texas, with similar events occurring in the past, such as a 3.6-magnitude quake near Poth and Falls City in June 2019, and multiple earthquakes in Karnes County and neighboring areas in previous years.
