In a remarkable show of support, Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has come forward, defending her former spouse after he publicly admitted to having an affair during their marriage over fifteen years ago. Kerstin expressed solidarity with Doug, who is now married to Vice President Kamala Harris, with whom they have built a warm and supportive blended family.

Addressing the recent revelation of the extramarital affair, Kerstin Emhoff told the Washington Post in a statement, "Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me, and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together."

It has been reported that Doug Emhoff's affair occurred with a nanny named Najen Naylor, who taught at a private school attended by their two children. The affair reportedly resulted in a pregnancy, though further details regarding this claim have not been disclosed. In his statement to CNN, Emhoff acknowledged his past actions, saying, "During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side."

While the affair was disclosed to President Biden's vetting committee four years ago before he chose Kamala Harris as his running mate, Emhoff had already informed Harris about the affair well before their marriage began. The relationship with Naylor had ended before Emhoff and Harris started dating.

Emhoff and Kerstin were married from 1992 to 2008, and their divorce was finalized in 2009. They have two children together, son Cole, 29, and daughter Ella, a 25-year-old model and fashion designer. Despite their separation, the couple has maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship, which has extended to include Harris in their blended family.

Notably, Kerstin Emhoff has been a vocal supporter of Harris, even during her presidential campaign. She proudly shared Harris' cover on Time magazine on her Instagram account, urging unity among Democrats and emphasizing the need for everyone to rally behind Harris. Furthermore, she defended Harris against sexist comments made by former President Donald Trump's running mate pick, Sen. JD Vance.

"For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and me," Kerstin told CNN. "She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it."

Despite the revelation of a past affair, it is evident that Doug Emhoff's ex-wife stands firmly beside him, emphasizing their enduring friendship and the strength of their co-parenting relationship. With the support of his blended family, Emhoff continues his role as the Second Gentleman, serving alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.
