In a recent announcement, the Seattle Mariners revealed that outfielder Dominic Canzone has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right adductor strain. To fill his spot on the roster, the Mariners have called up outfielder Jonatan Clase from Triple-A Tacoma.
This injury adds to Canzone's frustrations in what has been a challenging season for the 26-year-old. After a strong start to the year, Canzone suffered a sprain to his left AC joint in mid-April, which put a halt to his impressive performance. At that point, he had been batting a solid .219/.286/.531 with a 130 wRC+ in the first three weeks of the season.
However, since his return from the injury, Canzone's performance has not been the same. He has struggled at the plate, posting a batting line of .209/.290/.355 and an 84 wRC+. It is evident that something has not been quite right for him since his comeback.
The severity of Canzone's adductor strain is yet to be determined, as the length of his recovery will depend on the grade of the injury. Further updates on his condition are expected in the near future.
In the meantime, Jonatan Clase will be making a return to the Mariners' lineup. Clase spent a month playing for Triple-A Tacoma, where he continued to perform at a high level. He has shown potential for a 20/50 season if given the opportunity to play for the entire year in the Pacific Coast League.
Clase's challenge, however, will be finding a suitable role in the Mariners' lineup in the upcoming weeks. His strength lies in his left-handed batting, which could lead to more starts alongside Luke Raley in the outfield. On the other hand, his switch-hitting abilities are weaker from the right side, which could pose a challenge given the struggles of Mitch Haniger.
Regardless, Clase is expected to receive starts against right-handed pitchers and will also have the chance to contribute as a pinch runner in late-game situations.
The Seattle Mariners will now have to adjust their lineup with Canzone on the injured list and Clase taking his place. The team hopes that these changes will help them overcome the challenges they have faced in recent games and lead them to success in the upcoming matches.
Stay tuned for further updates on Canzone's recovery and Clase's contribution to the Mariners' roster as the season progresses.
