Authorities in Pennsylvania are conducting a recovery mission to find a missing 6-year-old girl who was caught in a deadly current in Chester Creek. Chester Fire Commissioner John-Paul Shirley announced on Sunday that the search-and-rescue operation for Lin'Ajah Brooker would now transition to a recovery effort.

Despite the initial hope of finding the young girl alive, Shirley stated that the circumstances and initial information suggested it would likely be a recovery operation. The search would continue until dusk, after which it would be suspended due to the risks posed to the search team.

"Our hearts are heavy as we announce this transition to a recovery effort," expressed Shirley during a Sunday press conference. The city of Chester mourns this tragic incident.

Brooker fell into Chester Creek on Saturday evening while playing with a friend in the vicinity. A combined team of responders, including Chester Fire, Delaware County water rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard, scoured the water using boats and helicopters. The search efforts extended all the way to the Delaware River. In addition, an underwater drone was deployed to search the river without endangering divers.

The team faced challenges due to heavy rainfall and debris in the water, which hindered visibility on Saturday. Although conditions improved somewhat by Sunday morning, there was still no sign of Brooker.

The authorities remain committed to finding the young girl and bringing closure to her family. The recovery efforts will resume once it is safe for the search team to continue their operation. As the community unites in grief, Chester mourns the loss of an innocent life and hopes for solace and strength for Brooker's loved ones during this difficult time.
