Following a consistent weather pattern in recent days, residents of Lower Michigan should brace themselves for scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening and into the overnight hours. With the possibility of locally heavy rainfall, some areas, particularly Detroit and Ann Arbor, may be at risk if the storms move slowly. Additionally, a few storms could potentially become strong to severe, bringing isolated damaging wind gusts.

The day is expected to be partly sunny to mostly cloudy and dry, with precipitation holding off until late afternoon and early evening, between approximately 4-9 p.m. Due to weak winds higher up in the atmosphere, the storms are forecasted to move slowly and in varying directions.

According to the HRRR future radar, showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to develop during the afternoon and evening, although there may be a slight discrepancy in the timing of their formation. The storms are projected to continue throughout the night and into much of the day on Friday, albeit in isolated fashion.

Given the high levels of humidity, there is a possibility of localized heavy rainfall wherever the storms develop and move across. However, it is worth noting that due to the isolated nature of the storms, certain areas may experience completely dry conditions, while others could see rainfall amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches.

Furthermore, it is important to be aware of the potential for isolated damaging wind gusts. The Storm Prediction Center has labeled much of Lower Michigan under a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms tonight. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and prepare for the possibility of strong to severe storms, which could bring with them damaging wind gusts.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist overnight and into Friday, particularly for areas further south. However, any severe threat should subside by the early morning hours of Friday, offering some relief from the turbulent weather.

As always, it is advisable to stay updated on the latest forecast from NOAA and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety during these potentially severe weather conditions.
