Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter had a close call during her headlining performance at the Outside Lands music festival over the weekend. The 25-year-old artist narrowly avoided getting hit by a pyrotechnics display that went awry following her set in San Francisco on Saturday.
Footage captured by attendees and the livestream of the event on Amazon Music shows Carpenter dancing in front of a barrier when sparks behind her suddenly veered off course. Startled, she let out multiple screams and quickly ran off the platform to safety. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.
Carpenter's set had already concluded, with her final song being "Espresso." After thanking her crew and the audience, she ran to the back of the stage and danced to the instrumental send-off music. However, moments later, the fireworks started and appeared to explode dangerously close to her position. Despite the unexpected situation, the band continued to play while Carpenter and her team made a swift exit from the stage.
The singer, who stepped in as a last-minute headliner after Tyler, the Creator had to withdraw from the festival, is currently gearing up for the release of her sixth studio album, "Short n' Sweet," set to debut on August 23. This album is a follow-up to her critically acclaimed project, "Emails I Can't Send."
During her performance at Outside Lands, Carpenter treated the crowd to a mix of her popular hits, including "Feather," "Nonsense," and her summer hit single "Please Please Please." She even surprised the audience by inviting country star Kacey Musgraves to join her on stage for a captivating rendition of Nancy Sinatra's classic, "These Boots are Made for Walkin'."
In an Instagram post following her set, Carpenter expressed her gratitude to the festival attendees and gave a special shout-out to Musgraves, calling her "an angel." While she did not mention the firework incident, fans were relieved to see the artist unscathed and ready to continue her musical endeavors.
For those who missed Carpenter's performance in the Bay Area, there's good news. She will be returning to San Francisco as part of her first arena tour, which will span across the United States and Europe to promote "Short n' Sweet." The tour is set to kick off on September 23 in Ohio and will conclude on March 26, 2025, in Italy.
This year has been a whirlwind for Carpenter, who made her debut at the iconic Coachella festival and later appeared as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Additionally, she also showcased her acting skills by appearing in a Scooby-Doo sketch as Daphne. Carpenter garnered attention in June when she cast her boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan, in the Bonnie and Clyde-esque music video for her song "Please Please Please," praising him as one of the best actors of his generation.
Despite the firework scare, Carpenter remains focused on her upcoming album release and eagerly anticipates embarking on her vast arena tour, captivating fans worldwide with her talent and energy.
