Russian authorities have arrested a 33-year-old woman with dual U.S.-Russian citizenship in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of raising funds for Ukraine's military. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, is accused of collecting funds for a Ukrainian organization with intentions to support Ukraine's army. This arrest follows the detention of Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich in the same city in March last year.

In a statement to the TASS news agency, Russia's Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg confirmed the arrest of the woman for allegedly engaging in unauthorized activities. Meanwhile, the court has extended the detention of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been held on espionage charges and will now be held until at least March 30.

Recent instances of U.S. citizens facing legal issues in Russia include the arrest of Robert Woodland Romanov on drug charges in January, and the detention of Alsu Kurmasheva, a journalist with dual U.S.-Russian citizenship, last October for acting as an unregistered foreign agent. Additionally, Michigan native Paul Whelan has been imprisoned in Russia since December 2018 on disputed espionage-related charges, receiving a 16-year prison sentence.

The sequence of events raises concerns about the treatment of foreign citizens in Russia and adds to the diplomatic tensions between the countries.
