Authorities discovered O'Donnell's infant grandson living in deplorable conditions laden with meth pipes, hazardous materials, and squalor.
The shocking discovery was made when police were called to Chelsea O'Donnell's residence following a disturbance involving her boyfriend, Jacob Nelund. This marked the second instance in a week that authorities had visited the home. Upon arrival, officers found the 11-month-old child, Atlas, alarmingly close to a box containing hypodermic needles and a meth pipe. The condition of the house was dire, with rotting food, dirty diapers, and other alarming hazards scattered throughout.
Further investigation revealed the presence of a methamphetamine setup, as officers reported finding paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking. Chelsea was reportedly carrying 18 grams of meth at the time. Consequently, she faces multiple felony counts, including maintaining a drug trafficking place, child neglect, possession of meth, and possession of THC.
Court documents from Marinette County indicate additional misdemeanor charges, such as disorderly conduct and possession of illicit prescription medications. The detailed police report painted a repulsive picture of the home's interior, describing the overwhelming stench of spoiled milk, filthy diapers, and blood-stained undergarments. Razor blades and drug paraphernalia were also found on the floor and beneath a baby crib.
Chelsea O'Donnell, described as visibly jittery and sweating profusely during the police encounter, appeared to be under the influence of drugs, as did her partner, Nelund. Officers noted that the couple seemed more preoccupied with their addiction than providing a secure environment for the child.
Adding to her legal troubles, Chelsea was pulled over by police on October 11, where she was again found in possession of a meth pipe and a stash of pills, including Oxycodone, Morphine Sulfate, and Hydrocodone, hidden in her bra. She now faces fresh charges of meth possession, bail jumping, and possession of narcotics.
Rosie O'Donnell, who has had a tumultuous relationship with Chelsea, has previously spoken about her daughter's ongoing struggles with mental health and substance abuse. Chelsea, who was adopted by Rosie and her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter as a baby, moved to Wisconsin at 18 to reconnect with her biological mother. Besides Atlas, Chelsea is also a mother to three other young children: Skylar Rose, 5, Riley, 3, and Avery Lynn, 2.
Chelsea is scheduled to appear in court in November to address the charges stemming from both incidents.
