Rory McIlroy, the professional golfer from Northern Ireland, faced a setback during the final round of the 2024 U.S. Open held at Pinehurst Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Despite his strong start and being tied for second place, McIlroy's luck took a turn for the worse on the fifth hole.

The 35-year-old golfer's shot on the green appeared to be well-placed; however, the ball unexpectedly rolled past its intended stopping point. To his dismay, the ball continued its trajectory, bypassing the bunker and landing in a rough patch. What initially seemed like a routine shot transformed into one of the most challenging breaks of the entire tournament, and possibly of McIlroy's career.

Understandably frustrated, McIlroy walked towards his errant shot with a visible disappointment. Unfortunately, this stroke ended up costing him, as McIlroy ultimately bogeyed the fifth hole. His hopes for victory in this year's U.S. Open took a hit, as he now trails the leader Bryson DeChambeau.

It is worth noting that McIlroy's last major tournament victory dates back to 2014, where he clinched the PGA Championship and the Open. He has previously also claimed the title of the 2011 U.S. Open. As the 2024 U.S. Open advances, McIlroy is eager to end his major drought and emerge victorious once again.

The tournament continues to be a thrilling spectacle, showcasing the exceptional skills of some of the world's best golfers. As the final round progresses, fans eagerly await to see if McIlroy can turn his fortunes around and make a comeback in the pursuit of the coveted U.S. Open title.
