World-renowned golfer Rory McIlroy has strongly denied recent rumors claiming that he is on the verge of accepting a remarkable $850 million contract from LIV Golf. The reports suggested that McIlroy had been offered a substantial deal along with a two percent equity stake in LIV, which would require him to leave the PGA Tour. However, McIlroy swiftly shut down these claims, asserting his intention to remain on the PGA Tour for the entirety of his professional career.

Speaking at the PGA Tour's RBC Heritage event on Tuesday, McIlroy expressed his bafflement over how such rumors had originated, stating, "I honestly don't know how these things get started." He made it clear that he had never received an offer from LIV Golf, nor had he ever contemplated the possibility of joining their ranks. McIlroy emphasized that he has consistently affirmed his commitment to the PGA Tour over the past two years. While he acknowledged that some players have chosen to play for LIV Golf, McIlroy firmly stated that his future lies solely within the PGA Tour.

McIlroy has played a prominent role as the de facto spokesperson for the PGA Tour since the bifurcation in men's professional golf. When the framework agreement between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian PIF was initially announced on June 6, McIlroy expressed his discontent, likening himself to a "sacrificial lamb" and declaring his continued aversion towards LIV Golf. Subsequently, he resigned from the PGA Tour policy board.

However, McIlroy's perspective on the division in professional golf has been evolving. In recent times, the 24-time PGA Tour winner has advocated for the unification of the sport on a global scale. He has voiced concerns about the current state of the game, describing it as "not sustainable" and urging both parties to reach a finalized agreement.

When asked about the origins of the recent report, McIlroy responded, "No idea." He acknowledged the numerous rumors surrounding players and emphasized the need for individuals to keep an open mind. While he acknowledged that some players may have had conversations with LIV Golf and received offers, McIlroy affirmed that it was never a topic of discussion for him. He expressed his disappointment about having to confront such rumors but reaffirmed his dedication to the PGA Tour, stating that he will continue to play in their events throughout his career.

McIlroy is set to compete at Harbour Town Golf Links on Thursday following his recent T22 finish at Augusta National. As negotiations for the future of men's professional golf continue behind closed doors, McIlroy's steadfast commitment to the PGA Tour serves as a testament to his belief in the importance of preserving the unity of the sport.

In a time of uncertainty, McIlroy's stance underscores his dedication to the PGA Tour and his mission to strengthen the global game of golf.
