**Rory McIlroy Secures Sixth Race to Dubai Title with Victory at DP World Tour Championship**

Rory McIlroy has claimed his sixth Race to Dubai title after emerging victorious at the season-concluding DP World Tour Championship. The 35-year-old’s latest triumph marks three successive Race to Dubai championships and ties him with golfing legend Seve Ballesteros for the most titles on the European tour. McIlroy previously captured the prestigious title in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2022, and 2023.

Entering the final tournament of the season, McIlroy held a comfortable 1,785-point lead over his nearest competitor, Thriston Lawrence. Lawrence faced the daunting task of needing to win the DP World Tour Championship and hope McIlroy finished outside the top 11 to snatch the title away.

McIlroy secured his victory in dramatic fashion, finishing two strokes ahead of Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard at 15-under par at Jumeirah Golf Estates. A three-under-par 69 in his final round ensured McIlroy’s triumph. With four holes remaining, he was level with Hojgaard, but a brilliant approach shot on the 16th hole enabled McIlroy to birdie and take the lead. Hojgaard's miss on a birdie putt on the 18th hole allowed McIlroy to seal his victory with a birdie of his own.

In an emotional address to Sky Sports, McIlroy shared, "It means a lot because I have been through a lot this year, professionally and personally. It feels like the fitting end to 2024; there have been plenty of close calls where I haven’t been able to get it over the line, but this was a tough day when I could get the job done."

This significant win comes after a challenging year for McIlroy, highlighted by his close call at the US Open in June. Despite leading, McIlroy faltered in the final round and lost to American Bryson DeChambeau by a single shot, extending his wait for another major championship to a decade.
