### Rockies Set New Low in Modern Baseball Era with Historic Losses
The Colorado Rockies are setting unprecedented records for futility this season. Their latest setback, a 5-3 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, marked a significant and grim milestone. This defeat leaves the Rockies with a dismal 9-50 record, making them the first team in modern baseball history, which dates back to 1901, to accumulate 50 losses before securing 10 wins.
The Rockies' recent performance has been particularly disheartening, with the team now enduring an eight-game losing streak and having lost 13 of their last 14 contests. Earlier in the season, the Rockies set the record for the worst 50-game start in the modern era, posting a 8-42 start. Adding to their woes, Colorado carries a 22-series losing streak dating back to last year, a feat that stands as a league record.
With a minus-185 run differential, the Rockies are on pace for a historic season of losses. They are projected to finish with a 25-137 record, which would surpass the existing record for the most losses in a 162-game season. The current record is 121 losses, set by the Chicago White Sox in 2024; notably, those White Sox had already won 17 games by the time they incurred their 50th loss.
During Sunday’s game, the Rockies briefly rallied when Tyler Freeman tied the game with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. However, their offensive efforts stalled afterward, allowing the Mets to secure victory by adding two more runs. Mets' closer Edwin Díaz successfully navigated around a baserunner in the ninth inning to earn his 13th save of the season.
On a slight positive note for Colorado, second baseman Orlando Arcia, who recently joined the team, hit his first home run of the year in the third inning. The Rockies will now look to change their fortunes as they head to Miami for a three-game series starting Monday.
