In Chatham County, Georgia, numerous roads have been forced to close due to the persistent high-water levels caused by recent heavy rainfall. As of August 11, the region continues to face significant challenges with flooding, drawing concerns from the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA).

Dennis Jones, the Director of CEMA, has announced that it may take an estimated 4-6 days for the floodwaters of the Ogeechee River to recede to pre-Debby levels. In response to this ongoing situation, public safety officials, in collaboration with County and Municipality Public Works departments, have acted swiftly to place barricades along affected roads, alerting motorists to turn around and seek alternative routes.

It is vital for both motorists and pedestrians to heed the warnings and avoid floodwaters altogether. The dangers associated with traversing through flooded areas can present serious risks to personal safety and property damage.

Over the past few days, Chatham and Savannah swift water rescue operations have successfully evacuated hundreds of residents living near the river. Their swift action and expertise have ensured the safety of those affected, providing much-needed relief amidst these challenging circumstances.

As the community continues to confront the effects of the persistent flooding, residents are urged to stay informed through official channels, follow instructions from local authorities, and remain cautious as the situation develops.

While the weather conditions remain beyond our control, it is through collective efforts that we can overcome these challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents affected by the ongoing flooding in Chatham County.
