**Richard Gere Takes on First Major U.S. Television Role in Showtime's 'The Agency'**

Iconic actor Richard Gere has ventured into his first significant U.S. television role as a series regular with Showtime's spy thriller, "The Agency." Gere portrays Bosko, the London station chief, in a series that is a re-imagining of the acclaimed French drama "Le Bureau."

Gere's character, Bosko, is fundamental to the narrative. As he explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it was vital that Bosko be portrayed as a grounded character, navigating multiple identities and universes without losing himself. Bosko oversees the re-acclimation of the CIA agent Martian, played by Michael Fassbender, who has returned from a covert mission abroad. Together with Jeffrey Wright's character, Henry, the director of operations for the CIA, they handle real-life global crises such as the war in Ukraine and the humanitarian situation in Sudan.

Engaging deeply with the show’s development, Gere described his admiration for the original French series, highlighting how vital it was for him to ensure his character was multi-dimensional and authentic. The involvement of director Joe Wright and a stellar cast were significant factors in his decision to join the project.

Gere acknowledged that working with his co-stars was initially challenging due to his late arrival on set. However, he commended the talent of Fassbender and Wright, mentioning that they quickly established their on-screen dynamics, which have become a unique aspect of the series.

Addressing the current relevance of the show's narrative, Gere emphasized the importance of integrating real-world issues. He noted that "The Agency" attempts to peel back the layers behind headlines, making the complex geopolitical landscape personal and visceral.

Filming predominantly in London posed a logistical challenge for Gere, requiring him to manage constant travel between London and New York. Despite the grueling schedule, he managed to maintain a balance to stay connected with both his work and his family.

Reflecting on his recent personal move to Madrid, Gere clarified that the decision was family-oriented rather than politically motivated. He asserted his ongoing commitment to staying involved in the U.S. social and political landscape, recognizing its importance.

As "The Agency" debuted on Paramount+ with Showtime, the first two episodes have already generated interest, with new episodes scheduled for weekly releases. The series also features guest star Dominic West in a prominent role as the director of the CIA.

Gere remains focused on the present creative process rather than revisiting his past works, emphasizing the importance of daily storytelling and authentic interaction on set. "The Agency" represents a pivotal shift in Gere's illustrious career, marking his significant return to television screens.
