Man Loses Both Legs and Hands Due to Complications from Flu

In a shocking turn of events, Josh Meyer from Boulder, Colorado, has lost both his legs and hands after contracting streptococcus, pneumonia, and sepsis following a bout of flu. Meyer, who was known for his active lifestyle, including skiing, hiking, and fly fishing, fell ill while taking care of his two children in early February when his wife, Courtney, was away on a business trip.

Meyer initially toughed out the illness throughout the week, but when Courtney returned home on a Friday, his symptoms had worsened. He was rushed to UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, where doctors discovered that the flu had developed into life-threatening complications. The sepsis had attacked Meyer's heart, lungs, and kidneys, necessitating the removal of both his legs.

Unfortunately, the complications didn't end there. Meyer also lost the use of both his hands, which will require amputation. Despite the tragic turn of events, Meyer remains grateful to the medical team at UCHealth who saved his life. He is currently recovering, and his UCHealth doctors continue to provide him with the necessary care and support.

The public response to Meyer's ordeal has been overwhelming. His sister started an online fundraiser to support his medical expenses and shared his story, prompting thousands of generous donations and messages of love and encouragement. Meyer expresses his deep gratitude for the outpouring of support, describing it as humbling and incredible.

Looking ahead, Meyer knows he has a difficult journey ahead of him as he adjusts to his new reality. However, one thing remains unchanged – his passion for fly fishing. Despite the challenges he faces, Meyer can't wait to get back out on the water, pursuing his beloved hobby.

Reflecting on his experience, Meyer urges others to seek professional help if their illness lingers beyond a few days. He emphasizes the importance of using one's best judgment and not hesitating to reach out for medical assistance when needed.

As Josh Meyer continues to recover, his determination and resilience serve as an inspiration to all who hear his story. His positive attitude and unwavering spirit will undoubtedly fuel his journey towards finding a new normal and pursuing his passions once again.
