In a move that is unlikely to gain traction in the Democrat-controlled Colorado House of Representatives, a group of Republicans have called for the impeachment of Secretary of State Jena Griswold. While this impeachment effort is anticipated to go nowhere, it has sparked a debate about the partisan nature of Griswold's tenure and the viability of such resolutions.

The call for impeachment came in the form of a letter sent by House Republicans to Democrat House Speaker, Julie McCluskie. The letter accuses Griswold of using her position to promote her own partisan political ideology and deems her unfit for her role. Griswold fired back, condemning the Colorado Republican Party for perpetuating conspiracies and political games, asserting that she will not be intimidated by baseless proceedings.

While it is evident that the resolution lacks support in the Democratic-controlled House, questions have arisen about the concerns raised regarding Griswold's partisanship. Sheila MacDonald, a Democratic political analyst, dismissed the impeachment effort as ridiculous and a waste of time. MacDonald pointed out that Griswold's office runs efficiently, providing fair and non-biased elections, and that she was elected as a Democrat to a partisan office.

Echoing MacDonald's sentiments, Republican political analyst Dick Wadhams criticized Griswold, referring to her as incompetent and a political hack. Wadhams accused her of using her position as a platform for her personal ambitions, suggesting that she plans to run for governor in four years when the seat becomes available. He further argued that Griswold's office does not directly oversee elections, but rather works alongside competent county clerks who handle the process.

While Wadhams expressed strong disapproval of Griswold's behavior and alleged incompetence, he also regarded the impeachment effort as a waste of time. He criticized the Colorado Republican Party for attempting to capitalize on the situation by raising funds and emphasized the hyper-partisanship prevalent in the current political landscape.

It is worth noting the friction between Griswold and county clerks, spanning both Democrat and Republican affiliations. This adds another layer to the criticism surrounding Griswold's tenure and raises questions about her ability to maintain positive working relationships within the election system.

As the impeachment resolution faces substantial opposition and is highly unlikely to progress, the focus remains on the partisan nature of Griswold's role as Secretary of State. The debates surrounding her tenure highlight the larger issue of hyper-partisanship in the political landscape of Colorado.
