In a shocking turn of events, the Republican nominee for superintendent overseeing North Carolina's public schools and its $11 billion budget has come under fire for his extreme and controversial comments. Michele Morrow, a conservative activist who recently upset the incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction in North Carolina's Republican primary, has a history marked by violent rhetoric and baseless conspiracy theories.

CNN's KFile investigation revealed disturbing statements made by Morrow, including calls for the execution of prominent Democrats such as former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden. In a tweet from May 2020, she responded to a conspiracy theory suggesting sending Obama to prison by stating, "I prefer a Pay Per View of him in front of the firing squad" and expressed her desire to televise his death.

Morrow's violent fantasies extended beyond Obama. She also suggested killing Biden, the president-elect at the time, for advocating mask-wearing during the pandemic. Her tweets and social media posts targeted other prominent Democrats including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, Sen. Chuck Schumer, as well as individuals like Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates. The Republican nominee repeatedly used the hashtag "#DeathtoTraitors" in relation to these figures.

Despite multiple attempts by CNN to reach out to Morrow and her campaign, no response was received. Morrow's extreme views have raised concerns among many, especially given her potential role in overseeing the state's public school system and managing its budgets.

Morrow's website highlights her support for parental rights and opposition to critical race theory. However, it remains unclear what changes she would make if elected, as her website provides limited information. In the past, she has referred to public schools as "socialism centers" and "indoctrination centers." She has also advocated for abolishing the state Board of Education, suggesting that direct control over the state's education agenda should rest with the superintendent and the Republican-controlled state legislature.

Alongside her violent rhetoric, Morrow has also promoted QAnon slogans and conspiracy theories. Her tweets included references to the QAnon conspiracy's belief in a coming "Storm" where thousands would face mass executions for alleged crimes. Morrow's posts also shared falsehoods about former President Obama being Muslim and expressed anti-Muslim sentiments.

These revelations have sparked controversy and outrage among many, raising concerns about the suitability of Morrow to serve as superintendent overseeing North Carolina's public schools. Critics argue that her history of extreme views and calls for violence are not fitting for a position responsible for setting educational priorities and implementing curriculum standards.

As the fallout from these revelations continues, it remains to be seen how Morrow's candidacy will impact the upcoming election and shape the future of education in North Carolina.
