In a recent interview with CNN's Jim Acosta, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) floated the idea that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) should strike a deal on aid to Ukraine in order to protect his Speakership, as a potential motion to vacate threatened Johnson's position. Kinzinger speculated on whether Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) would initiate the motion, and proposed an interesting reaction from Johnson if she did.

During the interview, Kinzinger pondered if Johnson would respond by delaying the motion to vacate and, in turn, prioritize the Senate foreign aid bill before the House goes on recess. He suggested that if Democrats came forward to support Johnson on the motion, it could potentially secure his position as Speaker.

Later on, Greene did in fact file a motion to oust Johnson as Speaker, expressing her disapproval of his support for a bipartisan spending agreement that was being considered by Congress. However, she made it clear that she would not immediately trigger a vote.

Speaking to reporters on the steps of the Capitol, Greene explained, "Today, I filed a motion to vacate after Speaker Johnson has betrayed our conference and broken our rules." She emphasized that this was a warning and urged for a careful and thorough process to select a new Speaker who would align with Republicans and the Republican majority.

The aid package in question is a $95 billion foreign aid bill, with $60 billion earmarked for Ukraine. Although the bill was passed by the Senate last month, Johnson has refused to consider it in the House due to its perceived lack of stringent U.S.-Mexico border measures.

Kinzinger also took to X platform to reiterate his views, stating that "Johnson should put the aid package on the floor NOW in exchange for dem votes to save him."

The situation surrounding Speaker Johnson's Speakership and the potential motion to vacate adds another layer to the ongoing debates over aid to Ukraine and border security measures. It remains to be seen how Johnson will respond to these developments and if a deal can be struck to preserve his position as Speaker of the House.
