In a bid to alleviate its financial struggles, seafood chain Red Lobster has taken the decision to close three of its restaurants in Kansas. The closures are part of a broader initiative by the company to restructure its debt, with the possibility of filing for bankruptcy.
According to Red Lobster's website, the restaurants in Kansas City, Olathe, and Salina have permanently shut their doors. However, the locations in Topeka, Wichita, and Overland Park will continue to operate as usual.
The company suffered a significant setback in November of 2023, as it reported a loss of nearly $11 million during the third quarter. This financial downturn was attributed to the all-you-can-eat shrimp promotion. In order to overcome this setback, Red Lobster made the difficult decision to close 87 locations nationwide.
In an effort to liquidate its inventory, Red Lobster has teamed up with TAGex Brands to conduct an auction. The auction will offer furniture, fixtures, and equipment from over 50 of its restaurants across the country. However, there are currently no Kansas locations on the auction list. The online auction is set to open at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
While Red Lobster continues its restructuring efforts, customers in Kansas can still enjoy their favorite seafood dishes at the remaining locations. The company is hopeful that these measures will help pave the way for a stronger financial future.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Red Lobster and whether the closures and financial reorganization will prove successful in overcoming its recent challenges.
