Red Bull Racing, the reigning Formula 1 world champions, has made a breakthrough in their quest to improve performance after driver Max Verstappen uncovered a crucial weakness in the RB20 car during an engineering meeting at Monza.

Over the past few races, Red Bull has struggled to remain competitive, experiencing a significant drop in form. At the recent Italian Grand Prix, Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez finished in sixth and eighth place respectively, allowing McLaren to close in on their lead in the constructors' championship, narrowing the gap to just eight points.

The team, which started the season strongly, has been grappling with issues related to the car's balance. In an extensive engineering meeting held at Monza, it was Verstappen who identified the problem, working in collaboration with the team's engineers to devise a plan to rectify the issue and restore competitiveness.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko acknowledged Verstappen's crucial role in uncovering the weakness, stating, "Max recognized on Saturday where the weakness of the car is. Together with the engineers, a decision was made on how to improve the car and make it competitive again. We just need to find out which part made the car worse."

With another race in Azerbaijan approaching in less than two weeks, Marko mentioned that Red Bull will continue to experiment with solutions. However, the team is realistic about their chances of returning to a competitive position, acknowledging that it may not happen until the United States Grand Prix.

The recent RacingNews365 podcast delved into the challenges faced by Red Bull and McLaren, analyzing the key problem plaguing Red Bull's performance, as well as discussing McLaren's team orders conundrum and Kevin Magnussen's race ban.

Red Bull's discovery of the car's weakness paints a glimmer of hope for the team, as they now have a clearer understanding of the specific issue to address. Fans and experts will be eagerly watching the team's progress in the upcoming races, anticipating Red Bull's resurgence in the fight for the championship title.
