### Massive Recall of Space Heaters Due to Safety Hazards
Over half a million space heaters sold on Amazon are being recalled following a safety warning from federal regulators. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall includes GoveeLife and Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters, which pose fire and burn hazards due to overheating.
The commission reported that approximately 512,500 units were sold in the United States and around 48,600 in Canada. Tests revealed that these space heaters do not meet the voluntary industry safety standard UL 1278, primarily because of risks associated with their wireless control features, leading to potential overheating and fire hazards.
So far, there have been 113 instances of overheating reported, including seven cases that resulted in fires and one minor burn injury. These space heaters, available in black and white, range from 9 inches to 26 inches in height, depending on the model, and were sold between September 2021 and 2024 on Amazon.com, the Govee Home App, and TikTok Shop, retailing between $30 and $150.
Consumers who own these heaters should immediately cease using them and contact the brand for a refund. To claim the refund, users need to unplug the heater, cut the power cord, and send an image of the destroyed unit, including the manufacturer's label and SN Code, to GoveeLife or Govee through the specified link in the recall notice.
