9 Million at Auction

In a historic moment for sports card collectors, a 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection autographed Michael Jordan Logoman card was sold for a staggering $2.928 million, including the buyer's premium. The sale, conducted by collectibles marketplace Goldin, marks the highest price ever paid for a Jordan card, solidifying its status as one of the most sought-after basketball collectibles in the world.

The one-of-a-kind Logoman cards, renowned for their exclusivity and featuring the NBA logo patch cut from game-used jerseys, are typically limited to just one copy. However, what distinguishes this particular card is that it showcases an authentic Chicago Bulls jersey, making it a highly coveted item among basketball enthusiasts.

The card received an "Authentic" grade from card grader PSA, along with a perfect 10 on the autograph, further enhancing its value and desirability. Goldin founder and CEO, Ken Goldin, spoke passionately about the card, referring to it as the "long lost" gem. Until recently, its whereabouts had remained unknown until it resurfaced with card grader PSA in 2022, adding to its intrigue and allure.

Expressing the significance of the card, Goldin stated, "Words can simply not express the historical significance and importance of this card. It is, without a doubt, the single best and the most valuable Michael Jordan card ever produced."

While this record-breaking sale is a momentous occasion for Jordan card collectors, it is essential to note that the overall record for a sports card still belongs to the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, which fetched an astonishing $12.6 million in August 2022. Similarly, the most expensive sports memorabilia of all time remains a jersey worn by Jordan in Game 1 of the 1998 "Last Dance" NBA Finals, which sold for $10.1 million in September 2022.

In addition to the Jordan card, Goldin also auctioned off a Kobe Bryant game-worn jersey from the Los Angeles Lakers' 80th game of the 2013 season. This memorable jersey was worn by Bryant during a thrilling 118-116 victory over the Golden State Warriors on April 12, when he scored an impressive 34 points. The jersey garnered significant interest from bidders and ultimately fetched $1.2 million, including the buyer's premium.

Collectors and enthusiasts alike continue to demonstrate their unwavering passion for sports memorabilia, with these record-breaking sales exemplifying the enduring allure of iconic athletes like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
