The weekend forecast for North Texas predicts another bout of rainy weather, with Mother's Day likely to be dampened by showers and thunderstorms. FOX 4 meteorologist Kylie Capps analyzes the upcoming weather patterns, highlighting the potential for a wet weekend.

On Saturday, a storm system originating from the desert southwest is expected to make its way into North Texas. A precursor disturbance ahead of the main storm system will bring showers and occasional rumbles of thunder on Friday afternoon. While the majority of the rain is expected to occur west of I-35W, there is a possibility of scattered showers reaching Dallas and the eastern areas. These showers are likely to manifest in the afternoon to evening hours, while the day itself will remain cloudy. Humidity has decreased as dewpoints start in the low 50s, creating a pleasant atmosphere. High temperatures are projected to reach the upper 70s for most locations.

Unfortunately for Mother's Day plans, rain is anticipated to hit the region on Sunday. Approximately 80% of the area is expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures reaching around 72 degrees amid the wet conditions. While the showers will be widespread, there will be intermittent breaks throughout the day. Although some storms may produce heavier rain and small hail, the overall risk for severe weather is low. However, due to already saturated soil, localized flooding may occur. Most areas can expect rainfall amounts in the range of two to three inches, but some regions may receive up to four inches. A Flood Watch will be in effect for much of the area from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The precipitation is likely to linger into Monday, and next week temperatures will rise back up to the mid-80s. The possibility of more rainfall continues throughout the upcoming week.

While the rainy weather presents potential challenges for outdoor activities and celebrations, it also offers an opportunity to spend quality time indoors with loved ones. Remember to stay updated on the weather forecasts and take necessary precautions if venturing outside during inclement conditions.
