In a display of resilience and determination, athletes from around the world paraded on boats in rain-soaked uniforms for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The four-hour event, held on the Seine River, went on as planned despite persistent rain, ranging from light showers to intense downpours.

While the unexpected conditions posed challenges for some athletes, they adapted and made the most of the situation. Some events, such as soccer and rugby sevens, had already begun days before the opening ceremony, but the majority of the action was set to start on Saturday. However, due to the rain, the opening of the highly anticipated skateboarding event was postponed.

Amid concerns of staying healthy in prolonged exposure to dampness and cold, Austrian marathon swimmer Jan Hercog revealed that he was taking vitamin C and supplements to bolster his immune system. However, athletes from certain countries shrugged off the rain, donning umbrellas and ponchos, and carried on with their spirited performances.

Spanish women's basketball player Megan Gustafson, commenting on her experience during the ceremony, stated, "I waited until a little bit into the rain before putting on the poncho, so I was pretty wet when I put it on, but that's OK. It was still fun." She further emphasized that the rain did not pose any health concerns for her or her teammates, as the weather was relatively warm and the rain wasn't excessively cold.

While some athletes chose not to participate or left the ceremony early due to their upcoming competitions scheduled for Saturday, Maksym Cheberiaka, spokesperson for Ukraine's Olympic Committee, reassured that Ukrainian athletes had no health concerns due to the rain.

The Paris Olympics 2024 is set to showcase the exceptional skills and talent of athletes from various nations, as they compete in a wide range of sports across the city. Despite the initial setback of inclement weather, the participants remain focused and determined to give their best performances in their respective events.

As the games continue, athletes and spectators alike hope for improved weather conditions to fully enjoy and appreciate the incredible athletic feats that the Paris Olympics have to offer.
