In an inspiring display of strength and determination, Princess Kate Middleton will make her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis at the Trooping the Colour parade, confirming reports from Page Six. The princess, who announced her diagnosis in March, expressed her excitement to attend the King's birthday parade alongside her family.
In a statement released on Friday, the Princess of Wales shared, "I'm looking forward to attending the king's birthday parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet." Alongside the statement, a photo of Middleton taken earlier in the week in Windsor, England was shared, showcasing her resilience.
Middleton, 42, had initially been expected to refrain from royal duties for the rest of the year due to her health condition. However, she emphasized that her health is a constantly evolving situation, and she is taking things one day at a time. Though the chemotherapy treatments are ongoing and set to continue for a few more months, the princess expressed that she is making good progress.
Acknowledging the rollercoaster of emotions that come with chemotherapy, Middleton stated, "On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well." She also revealed that she has been engaged in various work-related activities from home, participating in meetings and briefings with her teams.
Middleton's decision to attend the Trooping the Colour parade holds great significance, as she had skipped out on the Easter service in March. Accompanied by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, she will arrive on Saturday via a state carriage. The family will watch the parade from the Major General's Office, along with Middleton's husband, Prince William.
While Middleton is also expected to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the royal family's annual photo, those plans remain subject to change depending on her condition on the day of the occasion. Nevertheless, her presence during Trooping the Colour holds deep meaning, particularly as she serves as the honorary colonel of the Irish Guards.
In a recent statement, Middleton apologized for not being able to take the salute at this year's Colonel's Review, expressing her gratitude towards those involved in the event's preparation. Lieutenant General James Bucknall will instead take the salute on her behalf.
As Middleton prepares for her public appearance, she expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the support she has received throughout her journey. "I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months," she shared. "It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times."
Prince William, fully supporting his wife, is delighted to see her join him in a public engagement. He will focus on supporting her and their children during the Trooping the Colour parade while fulfilling his royal duties. Prince Charles, also anticipating the events, expressed his excitement and looks forward to the day.
Although Middleton's return marks a significant milestone in her battle against cancer, it should not be seen as an assurance of her participation in all future royal events. Her attendance will be determined with the guidance of her medical team, allowing her to prioritize her health and well-being.
